Tumor biology and the surgical pathologist.

I WOULD like to share with you some thoughts regarding the impact molecular biology is having and will continue to have upon the field of surgical pathology. I draw, in part, on my experiences as a member of the College of American Pathologist’s subcommittee on molecular pathology. This has given me a unique perspective on the process of incorporating the new technologies of molecular biology into the quality-controlbased realm of clinical diagnosis. A major area of medicine that will be affected is that of surgical pathology.
